My Husband's Best Friend

My husband has a loyal and dedicated friend that he has learned to treasure and protect over the years. I must admit, I often find myself jealous of my husband's best friend. He is always by his side. No matter what. Without fail. They share early morning breakfasts and late night snacks. They cozy up together during the morning news and the nightly sports reports. They might even find some time to watch Heros and laugh until they cry watching The Office.

Oh, sometimes I join them, but I am often forgotten. Not on purpose, mind you. But, forgotten none the less. I am the third wheel whenever the two of them get together.

Sometimes I take matters into my own hands and try to become more familiar with this best friend. Oh, how I long to be a part of this relationship. But, my husband's own jealousy and lack of control always leaves me empty handed, alone, and watching something with a ball flying through the air. They seem to share all of the same likes, dislikes, and passion for all things sports related.

I am certain I could share in their passions and broaden their minds, if only they would let me. I could open up a whole new world to them. One of shopping while still sitting on the couch and a plethora of romantic comedies, along with my beloved 80's movies.

If only my husband would let me hold the remote control...

Maybe then I could find something a little more interesting than basketball to watch on my TV.

One day his grip will loosen up and I will have myself a new, battery operated best friend. And, I too, won't let go.

Maybe THAT is why his grip is so tight...

How funnyyyyyy!!! Here I was thinking it might be a dog! Well, my husband and I tend to have completely different tastes in our TV viewings, so he usually ends up in the den and I am in the other living room....*sigh*....once in a great while, we come together to watch something that we both like!

The remote is very fickle. It likes to watch whatever the person holding it wants to watch. Why would I give it up?

This post made me thankful, for the first time, that my husband is currently working evenings. The remote is ALL mine! Insert evil laugh here. (Except I like basketball)

Now you know why it is called "March Madness". During this time of year, it is an incurrable affliction that strikes most males. Once the college tournament is over, you have a couple weeks before the NBA playoffs start. Good Luck.

That was a funny read! I was wondering if it was some kind of pet at first..... you kept me guessing.

It's a guy thing. I've given up trying to understand the need a man has to hold tightly to the remote control - maybe it's their way of feeling like they are in charge of the situation?

Thanks for the laugh this morning. Just one more way our families are long lost best friends. Adorable hubby just can't be separated from his best friend. Alas, it's TLC, The History and Discovery Channels that keep them eternally united. If only I could entice one of them into watching Law and Order or CSI or The Biggest Loser.

I'm thinking of purchasing my own battery operated friend ;0

That's why my husband and I watch tv in separate rooms. He only watches the History channel or scary stuff. He needs to broaden his horizons a little. I can't possibly be limited to that. Oh yea he watches football and baseball too. Not much of a variety over here.

Much love from NJ,
Sue

Oh, dear. I can relate. Though I do have the remote in the evenings because Hubby works at night. sometimes I'd rather not have it, just to have him home with my son and I. We miss him at nights, but we get him on the weekends so that's cool.

Okay... here's the plan.

Next time you're shopping you toss in one of those "I can work anything" remotes. You know the ones that always seem to have massive buttons so Grandma can see what she's doing while she gets confused controlling the VCR, DVD, TV and everything with the one remote. Then go home, put in the batteries and start messing with his sports loving mind :)

I have found that I can point our remote at the right spot on the wall and control the TV from a different room all together! "oh dear kids, you've watched too much TV so it's stopped working".
