Monday's Random Musings

Mrs. Nurse Boy here.

It is Monday AND the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year. I officially have a first grader and fourth grader. Man, do I feel old. I can still remember bringing each of them home from the hospital while feeling completely overwhelmed and inadequate. Turns out, I wasn't. Inadequate, that is. Well, most of the time anyway.

Since I am feeling tired and emotional, it must be time for some randomness...
~~~~~~~~~~
My gray hairs are multiplying, even faster than my wrinkles. And, that is saying something people!
~~~~~~~~~~

A wise woman once told me that I have laugh lines from living with Nurse Boy all these years. I kind of like them now. Perspective sure can change your attitude, can't it?
~~~~~~~~~~
Then again, maybe she was just trying to make me feel better.
~~~~~~~~~~

Today is the first day of school. Now the phenomenon begins: The kids all woke up early everyday this summer, yet it will take an endless amount of patience and gentle nudges to get them OUT! OF! BED! from now until May.
~~~~~~~~~~
It must be noted that the first day of school should always be started with a brand new pair of tennis shoes. Or, is that just me?
~~~~~~~~~~
And, those white tennis shoes will most likely return home brown by the end of the week.
~~~~~~~~~~
Is it wrong that I just realized that it has been a VERY long time since my van has been washed? (And, that that just might be the understatement of the year.) Never mind. Don't answer that.
~~~~~~~~~~
Project Runway starts this THURSDAY and I can't wait! I know it is sad, but it just might be the highlight of my week. I can't wait!
~~~~~~~~~~
Nurse Boy also starts back to school this week. His determination is amazing! I am so proud of him. He has a lot on his plate and really listens to me when I think the balance it out of whack around here. I really appreciate him!!
~~~~~~~~~~
Football... it is near. Very near. Too near, if you ask me. Let's all have a moment of silence for all of the wives who don't watch, follow, or even care a lick about it. Enough about me...
~~~~~~~~~~
Are bodily functions ALWAYS funny to boys?! I mean ALL THE TIME?! EVERY TIME?!~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Monday!! Feel free to join in my randomness in the comments or with a post of your very own!
(I just hit spell check and it said, "No misspellings found." Miracles do happen!!!)
Yes, bodily functions, espeically the kind that makes noise, are funny to boys. It's disgusting, I know, but true. Need more proof? I have a post about farts on my blog!
Wow, the guys look so grown up on their first day of school! So handsome!
I'm afraid the answer to the bodily functions question is yes. . . always funny. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "pull my finger. . ."
Laugh lines are fine, gray hair is BAD! I have to do root touch up every two months or so, and it's getting worse. . . I FULLY blame it on the kids.
Body functions, gym shoes, wrinkles from laughing, and football-you are speaking my language...
It's the male gender at all ages that find bodily functions funny!!! Trust me on this!!!
My grandkids start back to school on Friday. (What harebrained official thought up that start day, we will never know!)
Guy of all ages find bodily noises funny. We never outgrow it.
As for football starting, I say "Bring it on!"
We have a big school day (kindergarten) coming up on September 8th. This is probably one of only two times in my life that I will dread sending my kids to school (the second being when my youngest starts kindergarten).
And guess what? Football is on my tv right now, while my husband is in the other room "watching" it on the computer...and I had better not dare change the channel. It's like that "mom has two eyes in the back of her head" thing when it comes to football and my husband.
Several things:
1) Yes- new white shoes are a must. Completely agree.
2) No- you HAVE to watch football. How did you get guys in high school? We love it!
3) My kids have the late sleeping phenomenon on Saturdays. They can sleep till kingdom come every other day of the week. But 6:00 means RISE AND SHINE SLEEPING PARENTS on Saturdays. Who's children are these, anyway?
My kids never wake up for school either, but never sleep in in the summers. It is mind boggling. Yes bodily functions always amuse the boys. Big Fun! I too love new tennis shoes and outfits on the first day of school. Everything new for the first day!
I'm getting all funny about YOUR kids going off to school... I am so very much not going to cope in January when I have to send my own son.
My boys have laughed at their own noises since the day they were born. Sometimes I wonder if my biggest boy finds them most amusing. He did after all encourage Lion to do the "pull my finger" thing to our pastor... Yeah, real funny! He was also the one that downloaded a fart machine on to my iPod. But the free one he got first wasn't good enough... SO HE DOWNLOADED A FART MACHINE APP THAT COST ME $3!!!! I am sure you can understand that I didn't see the humor in that... not when they make the noises themselves for free most of the day. He's lucky he's such a hotty.
I am also that woman. Foot-what? Yeah. OK. Whatever. *sigh* I'm also base-what? And golf-what? but you know...WHATever. :-)
I agree about the laugh lines. That's what I'm going to say when I start getting them even worse than I have them now. But my laughter is at how absurd my husband is at times, not at how funny he thinks he is. :-)
Yes, guys definitely find amusement in bodily functions. Go figure!
And new (white) shoes are definitely a must for the first day of school!
Enjoyed your randomness!! :-)
I have a *gasp* 9th grader, 6th grader, and a 1st grader. Where the heck did the time go?!
My van is similarly dirty. I think both me and my husband are holding out to see who caves first. So far it's been I dunno how long...months maybe. Years?
Thanks for the heads up on Project Runway. I LOVE that show.
