Monday's Random Musings

Mrs. Nurse Boy here.

Today is Monday and the boys are starting their first day of soccer camp. They went last year and loved it. I am just thrilled they will have something to do from 9 to noon everyday this week and they won't be asking me what we are doing, where we are going, or who is coming over. Yes, I realize I am their "Activities Director" this summer, but I am really over the job. You see, it is exhausting, demanding, and endless. The hours are long, but the smiles ARE precious. Maybe I'll stick it out after all. Meanwhile, I'll focus on being thankful for soccer camp this week! A little rest for the weary!

Here are my random thoughts and reflections for today:
~~~~~~~~~~
I hate cold, bitter weather. However, I am not a huge fan of hot, suffocating weather either. Plus, I am growing tired of keeping my legs shaved. That's right. I said it. But, don't you worry. I wouldn't be caught dead with hairy legs right now. During the winter months however....
~~~~~~~~~~
The other day I found corn on the cob on sale for 5 cents an ear! I marched home and removed the husks. One of those ears of corn was a rotten mess and was home to one of the largest, juiciest worms I have seen in a long time. (Can you tell that I don't garden?) I let out a little yelp when I unwrapped my surprise while the boys went on and on about how cool it was and asked if they could keep it as a pet. My answer was a firm no.
~~~~~~~~~~
Whoever came up with the whole meatloaf idea? I mean, why would you want to make a loaf of meat? Yes, I know it can be good, but who thought of such a thing? (Yes, that is a very random thought. You are welcome!)
~~~~~~~~~~
I am happy to report that my camera is alive and well. Apparently, cheap batteries are not meant to be used in a camera. And, yes, I realize everyone else besides me seems to already know that. I guess I SHOULD have read the user manual after all.
~~~~~~~~~~
I am in love with spray on sunscreen. Yep, it was love at first sight! I can line up my crew and have them all sprayed down in one minute flat. Lotion, you are so yesterday.
~~~~~~~~~~
Nurse Boy and I watched the movie, New In Town, this weekend. I love making him sit through romantic comedies. He always squirms at the very thought of it, then he has to quietly admit that he actually enjoyed it when it is over. New In Town was no exception. Cute movie and Nurse Boy gives it two thumbs up! (He is going to kill me for this one. Why can't guys admit that they like romantic comedies?)
~~~~~~~~~~
Lastly, I like to keep it real around here. I am gong to get serious here for a minute... A few months ago, life was heavy. So heavy. We were busy being parents. Nurse Boy was very busy being an employee, a student, and a daddy. We both had forgotten to be a husband and a wife. I began to feel disconnected with my husband. I felt like a mommy and only a mommy. I know I am not the only one who ever feels this way. Nurse Boy and I had a heart to heart. Truth be told, I would NEVER give up on my husband. Honestly, that is NOT an option for either one of us. We are in a covenant marriage. But, I was feeling discouraged. Very discouraged. We made a commitment to put our marriage first, no matter what was on the schedule or the to-do-list. And, I prayed. I needed God to rekindle the fire in my heart for my wonderful husband. I can now say that God is just as committed to our marriage as we are! (Actually, more so.) That prayer did not return void! So, I encourage anyone who ever feels this way to pray and commit to make your marriage a priority...and do it right when you see or feel those signs of feeling disconnected!
~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you, Nurse Boy for always sticking it out with me! (EVEN during those "monthly spells" when one of us can sometimes be a bear to be around. We won't mention which one of us that is. ;0) I am a very blessed wife!
~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, and I forgot to thank the woman who was sitting behind us at the comedy club this weekend. Thank you for constantly using your flash camera and blinding us all night long in the pitch black. I guess that was your way of mocking me and my "broken" camera with cheap batteries. Thanks again. I am still seeing spots.
Don't forget that you can join in on the fun! Just let me know in the comments if you are posting some randomness of you own and I'll be sure to stop by!
I like cooler weather better than hot because you can add a layer, but you can only take so much off.
I don't know who came up with the whole meatloaf idea, but I would like to say "Thank you".
We work at a sweetcorn festival every year and can relate to the wormy ears of corn. When you husk a semi trainer & a half of corn in four days, you tend to find things like that.
Meatloaf is not a food I will ever cook. YUCK. I just wont eat it. Wolf would, but that's just too bad for him.
We got our air-cons installed today... BRING ON SUMMER! I am sure I will regret that statement come summer time but today it was so freezing in here when they were testing them I was longing for summer. I am shaving my legs super regularly at the moment even though I'm wearing jeans every day... I just never know when I finally wont be able to reach around my belly anymore.
Thanks for the reminder to pray for our marriage!!
I think the person who invented meatloaf was the one who promised their family roast beef for dinner and then realised they only had minced beef in the freezer!
And I fell in love with spray-on sunscreen this past summer too. So much easier than lotion, especially when at the beach (sand doesn't get in it!)
Thanks for sharing about the marriage woes. I've had my share of those feelings, and I am also so glad I have a fantastic husband who sticks with me through all my moods.
(About your last post-love the Greek Chicken Salad!! I will be making it soon...)
I am also getting tired of shaving my legs...maybe there IS an up side to winter I never thought of-
Marriage...hard work. Everyone has their bad days-but like you-we are committed to our marriage.
I would not be the cook I am without meatloaf. That is practically my signature dish...
We've had cooler temps than normal so some of my flowers have not filled out as they should and our tomatoes are not doing so well, either, though I do like the cooler temps, BUT we do need some heat. It's just the normal cycle of things, you know?
Once I found a recipe that I liked, I now looooove meatloaf!!!
Thanks for sharing the thoughts about your marriage. I believe we all go through those times but we must always be working on our relationship...yes, they are work....but in a good way and the results are well worth it! *smile*
Oh, and about the shaving of the legs...wellllll....since going through the Big M? I only have to shave my knees! LOL Seriously, AND not very often!
Oops - our three-year-old loves the spray on sunscreen too. I mean, he loves to find it and just spray it all over everything. Do you have any idea how long it takes to clean that up when it's all over a kitchen??? When he runs squealing and shrieking from you ... spraying all the while? YIKES! :)
And my husband is as manly as they come (Tim Allen arghh arghh!), but his favorite move is Princess Bride ;)
And... you are absolutely right about praying when you need to be recommited and reconnected. It's tough when you have little ones - but even more important then! Thanks for the reminder!
This is a link to a post I did about when the kids were little and I was tired and just didn't feel like I was feeling the love anymore in my marriage.
God gave me a gracious husband who totally understood and anyway, I thought you might like to read it as it is similar. Thank God for understanding hubbys when mommy is exhausted, lol!
I love your posts, girl. You need to tweet and facebook!
oops, the link didn't work so I will just put this in and you can paste it if you want to read it, or go look under my "marriage" label.
I love meatloaf smothered in ketchup (and I just had to go to the fridge and look at the bottle so I wouldn't spell "ketchup" wrong and look like an idiot).
So, Mr. Nurse Boy gets PMS pretty bad, huh? You know they make pills for that now. . .
Well, I love that y'all keep it real. Did I tell you Daddy and I are high school sweeties too? I think we have a few years on y'all though. In our almost 18 years we have never once uttered the "D" word ~ not an option. We've had our disconnected moments as well . . . it happens, but we always find our way back and are closer for it. God is good. Ok, enough mush.
Have a great week y'all! :)
I'll be in on your randomness next week.
I agree about the shaving the legs thing. That's all I'm gonna say...
I hate hot, suffocating weather. I hate sweat under my boobs. And that's all I'm going to say about that too. . .
I'm glad you and Nurse Boy are hanging in there and keeping it real. Hubby and I have gone through these spells too....just as recently as this week...but we talk, we remind each other how much we mean to each other and we pray that God will be with us and keep us together. We don't believe divorce is an option either. There always has to be another way, I believe.
All I know is that meatloaf in some form or fashion has been around awhile. A little meat stretched to feed many by using fillers. LOVE me some meatloaf. Just made one Saturday. MMM.
I shaved my legs because Emily told me my legs were looking pretty scraggly. Snort.
Your comment about the weather really cracked me up. It is exactly why I live in California, more specifically in the Bay Area.
My friends and I joke about how we are only comfortable within a 20 degree range at this point in our lives. Growing up, it was common for our summers to hit 110. Ugh. Can't do that anymore! :)
Funny!!! I agreed with you on many things in this post. I MUST say that my husband and I watched New In Town last week and LOVED IT. So funny! One of my favorite parts: "That's my daughter, there's nothing hot about her!" Ha. Ha. He was so my husband in that entire scene. I give it 2 thumbs up too. My hubby liked it too :o)
