We All Scream For...
ICE CREAM!!!!
We have a little family tradition around here. It is something I read about while doing a women's Bible study long ago. I couldn't wait until my children were old enough to introduce it to our family. It only happens about once or twice a year, but that is all it takes to make my children happy and create some special memories.
It is always a surprise when we will do it. We only do it when it isn't expected.
It always starts off just like any other night. The kids go through their entire bedtime routine. We tuck them into bed and turn out the lights.
Then we wait a few minutes.
Next, we run into their room shouting, "Ice Cream Run!" I took this picture right when we told them the exciting news. Look at those faces!
They jump out of bed and we head off for ice cream... and, yes, they wear their PJ's. That's what makes it so much fun!
Here they are enjoying their late night snack.
Now, go ahead. Make some memories of your own!
I hope my kids will continue this tradition with their own families. I mean, what's not to love?!

That is so freakn' cool! LOVE it! Hubby has been known to wake up Bubba when he works nights and they'll go to Waffle House at midnight for scattered, smothered, covered! :)
What a great tradition!! I so wish Buddy wasn't allergic to milk. We do let him indulge once in awhile, and it makes him soooo happy.
I love that you captured it on camera!
How fun!
You comment once about having a husband that's a little quirky like mine. You're right! You're just a quirky family. One that every child longs to grow up in!
Love it!!! (I may just send my husband out for me tonight...the kids are asleep...)LOL
oh that does seem like fun! I'm going to have to steal that tradition in a few years when mine are a little older. I love those joyous looks on their faces!
We used to do that when the kids were little too, and they loved it! I love the pictures of their faces.
I can still do it now, in a way. When it's snowing I can go surprise them with the news. My oldest is usually working on his college homework and the youngest is in bed.
It usually builds up really well and then around 11:30 p.m. or midnight I'll go tell 'em and we'll go walk out in the snow. It's like a tradition!
That is so fun! I will have to remember that when my kids get a little older! And you got some great pictures! I love how excited they look!
Can I be part of your family? My kids would love that. what a great idea. I may have to steal...I mean borrow that sometime. FUN!

Did you see Bruiser in the last picture. He looks literally drunk on his thin mint blizzard.
Many of you commented that you will do that with your kids when they are older. Thanks, I feel old.
Mr. NB
I absolutely love this tradition! We are going to have to start it and soon!
P.S. You're not old....some of us just got a later start is all.
TOO COOL! We pretty much own stock on DQ and Cold Stone, so what a perfect thing to do. My 4 year old would love it. Who am I kidding, me and the hubby would love it. Chocolate extreme blizzard for me please :o)
Totally cracking up at the Mister's comments... you are not old, Dude... it's just that our kid is too young!
Along those lines, I've been making the sacrifice of eating all his Blizzards for him. Yeah, I'm selfless like that.
(As my thighs thunder down the sidewalk).
This is an AWESOME idea... I'm totally stealing it. Loving how much fun you guys are and that you captured it for posterity!
FABULOUS! I think Maddie would drop dead of shock. She is all but strapped into her bed at night--will not get out for ANYTHING.
So how late exactly was the ice cream run?
I remember you blogging about this before and thinking "I'll do that one day"... haven't yet.
Maybe once I am off this darn 'no milk unless it's reached boiling point' thing... Mmmmmm, boiled icecream-slop... tasty.
Awww, that is so cute! I will have to file that away for when Blaze is older.
By the way, you are not old, like another commentor said some of us got a late start!!
